Depressed on Halloween

I'm a 19-year-old college student depressed on Halloween. I noticed this happening last year. I think it's postpartum Halloween depression. Simply put, I miss Halloween as a child. I'm a normal college student. I go out to parties with friends and everything so it's not like I'm lonely around this time. I miss all of the festivities leading up to Halloween and of course, the biggest day of the month, Halloween itself.

I guess I had a great childhood and I can't seem to let go of those memories during this time of the year. This is the way for Christmas. Right now, I'm sitting at home doing homework and I can't stop thinking about this day. I didn't go to a fun costume parties, didn't carve pumpkins, somewhat decorated the house (but I live in a gated house so no one even stops by on Halloween). I didn't get to do any fun community festivities like go to community halloween events, go to a haunted house, or a pumpkin patch. My best friends are also away at college in different towns, which makes everything suckier.

I did try and do some festive things. Decorated the house a bit. Watched some of my favorite childhood halloween movie (Halloweentown!), made some decoartive festive Halloween foods but that still didn't help much.

Does anyone else get depressed during this time of the year?

It's normal to remember your childhood when everything was so beautiful and carefree. Still, you also need to enjoy the present moment. You should not always remember that it used to be better; now, it won't be like that. It is a direct road to depression and other psychological problems. Try to be positive in this world, and think this particular Halloween will be the best in my life! And then depressive thoughts will not visit you. You need to control your emotions. I didn't do it at the time and then started drinking a lot, "saving" myself from depression. It's good that my parents found out about the best rehabilitation clinics from this article -- https://fherehab.com/location/alcohol-rehab-deerfield and enrolled me there.

As a person who just turned 78 years old and who obviously views life differently from someone your age, I am not

sure this is going to answer your question but as the old saying goes, nothing ventured nothing gained, so here goes:

Somedays I think of events that just happened recently in my life and sometimes I think of events that occurred

as far back as my childhood and lots in between.

Some of those memories are happy ones and some are not so happy.

The fact that I still remember these one one way or the other means that they were important then and obviously now or else

I wouldn't remember them.

Most importantly(and here is where age becomes a factor), I can look back at many of those events today which were so important

then and in retrospect say that particular moment in time they were important back then but in terms of my life insignificant.

I know I am getting a bit ot here, but since you are a college student as I was back in the Stone Age, consider this.

I was a sophomore in college and walked my butt off in my economics class and wanted an A so bad.

I knew it would be a nail-biter and that I would either get an A, an A- or a B+.

Well to cut to the chase, I got a B+ in the course and was very unhappy.

My late wonderful and wise father told me that in time it wouldn't mean a good god damn whether that I got the B+ or an A

and what counted is that I gave it my best effort.

At the time I thought that he didn't know what he was talking about, and that it was VERY important!!

Looking back at things not just today but just a few years later after he said it, I realize he was right.

End of story and back to the issue.

All I can tell you (and I realize that this might be hard to relate to at age 19), is to never dwell/reminisce in the paast too much

and especially so if the it is painful to do so.

Instead focus on today and how to make it and well as days in the future happy and productive ones in terms of your overall

goals in life.

I apologize and understand if what I wrote above is meaningless and/or you cannot relate to it.

In any case, thanks for reading, and I hoipe everything works out for the best for you whether it be Halloweed or anything

else in life!!

so

Lots of Halloween parties out there. Dress as a pumpkin and your boyfriend dress as Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. ?
